Valentina Wassiljewna Tolkunova ( Russian Валентина Васильевна Толкунова ; scientific transliteration Valentina Vasil'evna Tolkunova ; born July 12, 1946 in Armavir ; † March 22, 2010 in Moscow ) was a Russian singer. She was honored as an Honored Artist of the Russian SFSR (1979) and People's Artist of the Russian SFSR (1987).

biography

At the age of 18, Valentina Tolkunova enrolled at the Moscow State University of Culture and the Arts. In 1966 she became a member of Juri Saulski's orchestra , in which she was a soloist and sang jazz pieces. In 1971 she graduated from the Gnessin Institute in Moscow and recorded several songs for the television film Day by Day . The year 1972 was the year of her breakthrough for Tolkuova, when she was invited to perform a song by Vladimir Schainski at an anniversary concert in the renowned Moscow Hall of Columns . This started a successful career on television and radio. From 1973 she worked for the Moskonzert Association, and from 1989 she headed the Musical Drama Theater.

On February 16, 2010, during a concert in Mogilev, Belarus, Tolkunova fell ill and was admitted to a local hospital, later transferred to Moscow. Tolkunova was diagnosed with a brain tumor . On March 22nd, she fell into a coma and died. Her grave is in the Trojekurovo cemetery in Moscow.
