Hans Besig

Hans Besig (born July 31, 1908 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † June 4, 1965 in Markt Schwaben ) was a German classical archaeologist and high school teacher .

Life

Hans Besig was the son of the senior consistorial councilor Hans Besig (1873-1941), who was transferred to Berlin in October 1914 . After attending the humanistic grammar school in Berlin-Steglitz and graduating from high school in Easter 1927, he studied classical archeology, ancient history , classical philology and art history in Freiburg im Breisgau , Munich , Leipzig and Berlin . From October 1933 to July 1934 he worked as an unskilled worker at the Berlin Museum. In March 1935 and from October 1936 to 1937 he was an extraordinary assistant at the Archaeological Institute of the University of Berlin. On December 15, 1937 he received his doctorate in Berlin with Gerhart Rodenwaldt with a thesis on the representation of the Greek gorgon . For 1937/38 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute .

After the end of the Second World War, Besig prepared for a school career. On November 6, 1948, he passed the teaching examination in Greek, Latin and German and received the license to teach Greek and Latin for all grades, in German up to the lower level. He taught at the Arndt School in Berlin-Dahlem . On October 15, 1953, he was appointed to the faculty. Besig retired on October 1st, 1960 and moved to Bavaria with his family. He died on June 4, 1965.

His sons are the cellist Hans-Peter Besig (* 1949) and the violinist Jürgen Besig (* 1951).
