Kum-Kum ( Japanese わ ん ぱ く 大 昔 ク ム ク ム , Wanpaku Oomukashi Kumu Kumu , literally: The cheeky Kum-Kum from prehistoric times ) is an anime television series.

The young caveman Kum-Kum lives in Stone Age Japan. His family includes his father Paru-Paru, his mother Maru-Maru, his sister Furu-Furu and his brother Toru-Toru. Kum-Kum's girlfriend Chiru-Chiru and his playmates Aron and Mochi-Mochi also perform. During his adventures, Kum-Kum meets other Stone Age people, but also animals such as bears, fantasy creatures and anachronistically even a dinosaur.

The series' creator and character designer was Yoshikazu Yasuhiko , who was also involved in more famous anime series such as Uchū Senkan Yamato , Brave Raideen and Mobile Suit Gundam .

As directors acted Noboru Ishiguro , Wataru Mizusawa and Rintaro . Ishiguro directed before Kum-Kum in the science fiction anime series Uchū Senkan Yamato and after Kum-Kum in another classic of the science fiction genre, Chōjikū Yōsai Macross . Rintaro alias Shigeyuki Hayashi was to become one of the most famous anime directors after Kum-Kum through series like The Adventures of the Fantastic Space Pirate Captain Harlock and anime films like Galaxy Express 999 .

Among the three scriptwriters Eiichi Tachi, Yoshiaki Yoshida and Keisuke Fujikawa is mainly the latter through his work as an author of numerous other anime franchises such as Transformers and Mazinger Z known.

Both the opening ク ム ク ム の う た ("Kumu Kumu no Uta", literally "Kum-Kums Lied") and the ending サ ウ ル ス く ん ("Saurusu-kun", literally "Saurus") were sung by Mitsuko Horie, who became known mainly through the opening of Candy Candy two years later, contributed songs to numerous other anime such as Doraemon , Hello Sandybell and Sailor Moon and was also successful as a voice actress in anime such as Saint Seiya , Dragon Ball and Wonderful Pollyanna .

Kum-Kum was first broadcast on the Japanese television station TBS from October 3, 1975 to March 26, 1976 in 26 episodes of 25 minutes each. The series ran in the 1980s among other things on German, French, Italian, Brazilian (as As Aventuras de Cacá ) and British television.
