Kunigunden Festival
The Kunigunden Festival is a traditional festival that takes place in the town of Lauf an der Pegnitz .
The festival is held every year on the weekend of the first Sunday in July. In addition to a parish fair that is also common elsewhere on the occasion of the consecration of the St. Kunigund chapel , it has been celebrated as a school and local festival since 1807. This includes musical performances, round-robin performances and processions in historical garb .
The Kunigunden Festival has a motto issued by the city every year. On Kirchweih Sunday and on Kirchweihmontag, the pupils of the Laufer elementary schools, together with their teachers and accompanied by the city tour, various music groups and some Laufer clubs, move across the city to the hill with the chapel in the north . Some groups have a moving van with them, which is usually designed with a motif to match the respective festival motto. As a special feature, all wagons are only pulled by horses or occasionally by ponies. Since 1932, Empress Kunigunde and her court have accompanied the train on horseback, portrayed by students from Lauf.
Arrived on the Reigenplatz below the chapel on the Kunigundenberg , the festival program begins there, which essentially consists of the prologue of the Empress, the address of the mayor, various music and dance performances (especially the White Dance ) and a play. The play is practiced and performed every year alternately by one of the three municipal primary schools.
Since the place next to the chapel and in the old town of Lauf is not suitable for modern rides, these have been set up on the Heldenwiese about halfway between the old town and Kunigundenberg for decades . The festival ends with fireworks on Tuesday evening at 11 p.m.
In 2007 the Kunigunden Festival was celebrated for the 200th time.
