The Bangkok Art and Culture Center

The Bangkok Art and Culture Center ( Thai : หอ ศิลป วัฒนธรรม แห่ง กรุงเทพมหานคร , Bangkok Art and Culture Center) is a contemporary art museum in Bangkok . It is located on the corner of Rama I. road and Phayathai Road in District Pathumwan ( Skytrain -Station National Stadium ).

The initiative to build an arts and culture center came from Governor Bhichit Rattakul. Construction began in 2000, but was later interrupted due to financial difficulties and corruption allegations. The facility was originally supposed to be called the Bangkok Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art, but it was given its current name prior to opening.

The Bangkok Art and Culture Center opened on July 29, 2008 with the opening exhibition “ Always roaming with a hungry heart ”, on which photos of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn were shown. In 2009 a show with more than 300 works by domestic and foreign artists took place until November (traces of the smiling Siam: art + faith + politics + love).
