The non-profit art association Langenhagen was founded in 1981 by citizens. Ursula Schöndeling has been the artistic and management director since 2008, and Holger Graab has been the chairman of the board since 2013.

description

The association promotes international contemporary art through presentations in Langenhagen and offers art education . In a year-round exhibition program, the association presents at least five solo and group exhibitions, which are accompanied by artist talks, lectures and roundtables, as well as weekly free tours and freely bookable workshops. A central task is the promotion of new productions of artistic works for the exhibitions in order to support artists in the implementation of new projects.

The association sees itself as a forum for international contemporary art that participates in the current artistic discourse, takes up relevant social issues and provides impulses beyond regional significance. A recurring topic is the dialogue with local conditions in the city of Langenhagen. Virulent discussions, historical traces and the constant change in the living environment are the starting points for dealing with (public) spaces in Langenhagen and point beyond the local level to social changes. Positions in contemporary photography and the promotion of up-and-coming artists from Lower Saxony are another constant.

In addition to artist talks, guided tours and specialist lectures on the individual exhibitions, the art association offers workshops that accompany and cross-exhibition exhibitions in cooperation with local actors and institutions.

The project with Leibniz University for the training of teachers and art educators will be continued in 2013 with two-semester seminars.

The art education team has now established itself as an integral part of the work of the art association with a broad impact. The agents offer free workshops for all exhibitions. With the specialist service for children and youth in Langenhagen, creative offers are regularly carried out as part of the KreativWerkstatt and holiday programs. In these workshops, artistic impulses for the investigation and design of one's own living environment are taken up and thus made fruitful for the participants. Most recently, two films were made by students at IGS Langenhagen about the Langenhagener Kulturdreieck and about leisure time in the shopping center.

Through guided tours with artists through the urban space, the association brings the citizens closer to art in public space in Langenhagen and thus creates a broader reception.
