Art Association Paderborn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kunstverein Paderborn e. V. was founded in 1968 with the aim of promoting contemporary art.

Goal setting and activities

The association aims to show and promote young art - painting, graphics, sculpture, architecture, object art, photography and new media - and to develop a critical understanding of this contemporary culture in public. Therefore, the program of the Kunstverein is dedicated in particular to current art tendencies that follow new paths in art development following or in contrast to the existing art history.

In the context of exhibitions and various other forms of events, artists are presented who with their work reevaluate, interpret and thus further develop existing traditions or take new directions, establish and shape innovative trends or pursue them in a high-quality manner.

The art association presents around six exhibitions of contemporary art every year. These are accompanied by tours and catalogs. During the exhibitions there are also other events such as readings, concerts and roundtables.

In addition, the association is involved annually in the “ Open Ateliers ” campaign by Paderborn artists and offers an exhibition forum for this purpose.

Every two years, the Kunstverein, in cooperation with the University of Paderborn , awards the Dr.-Käthe-Sander-Wietfeld-Förderpreis to art students, and in cooperation with the Sparkasse Paderborn a prize to artists who significantly shape and represent the image of Paderborn.

history

When it was founded in 1968, the association initially had an exhibition area within the premises of the Volksbank Paderborn and very soon moved to the Adam and Eve House . The next stop was the municipal gallery, in whose rooms the art association was able to present its exhibitions. In 2015, the art association and the municipal gallery had to release the rooms for the Paderborn City Museum . In 2016 the association moved into rooms in Westernstrasse 7 for temporary use until the beginning of 2020. In March 2020, the association moved into new exhibition rooms at Kamp 13.
