The copper vapor laser belongs to the group of metal vapor lasers (see laser ). They are operated at high temperatures (depending on the vapor pressure , but mostly above 1500 ° C) and only pulsed . In return, however, they have high gain factors. The wavelengths are in the green (510 nm) and yellow (578 nm) spectral range. The vapor pressure of the copper is around 0.005 mbar, the temperature required is around 1700 ° C. The mechanical structure of the laser consists of a quartz tube, a heating coil with thermal insulation and two electrodes on which the mirrors are mounted.

Copper vapor lasers can be built with relatively high outputs (a few watts to many kilowatts). They need a longer time to preheat, as a sufficient amount of copper must have gone into the vapor phase before they are ready for use.
