Kurt Weissen

Kurt Weissen (born February 28, 1953 in Basel ) is a Swiss historian and business leader.

Life

Kurt Weissen studied history and German at the University of Basel from 1973 to 1981 . In 1994 he was with a dissertation on national sovereignty, economy and administration in the Prince Bishop's powers in the area of Basel PhD . In 2001 he completed his habilitation in Basel with a thesis on Florentine bankers in Germany until 1475. In 2007 he completed his habilitation at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , where he has since worked as an adjunct professor of medieval history.

His research focuses on economic and social history in the late Middle Ages, primarily in Italy, Germany, in the city and in the Principality of Basel.

In addition to his academic work, Weissen performed various senior management functions as a board member in the private sector (Bank Sarasin, Manor , Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund , Zurich , Arthur Andersen ). Since 2002 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation ( Rolex ) in Geneva.
