Kusi Obodom

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From 1750 to 1764, Kusi Obodom was the 3rd Asantehene (ruler) of the Ashanti Kingdom in what is now Ghana .

30 years before his inauguration, Kusi Obodom was a candidate for the office of Asantehene as the successor to the founder of the empire, Osei Tutu I. At the time, however, the influential priest Okomfo Anokye had spoken out in favor of Opoku Ware I. , his direct predecessor. After Opoku Ware's death, he is said to have killed one of his opponents in bloody clashes in the capital Kumasi . Even during his tenure, he had a low reputation and was accused of being drunk. In 1764, when his eyesight began to deteriorate, he voluntarily renounced the rule.
