Kuwait News Agency ( Arabic وكالة الأنباء الكويتية, DMG Wakāla al-Anbāʾ al-Kuwaitīya - KUNA for short  /كونا) is a news agency in Kuwait . The main building is located in Shuwaich .

history

As early as November 15, 1978, the news agency reported three hours a day in Arabic . At that time more than 70 people were employed for them.

The official establishment of KUNA goes back to the Amiri Decree , which was passed on October 6, 1979. The aim was to collect information and distribute it to other media.

Iraqi troops confiscated all equipment and the archive after the invasion in August 1990 . From London , the reporting started during the occupation of Kuwait on October 13, 1990. A total of 16,100 messages were transmitted from there. After the country was liberated, KUNA returned in November 1991 and reorganized itself until the end of 1992. On November 15th, KUNA resumed its work with an average of 40 messages per day.

In 1999 it had 365 employees and processed 72,500 messages in English and Arabic . In 2009, KUNA had 33 correspondent offices outside Kuwait.
