The Kwizda Agro GmbH was founded in 1926 and is a supplier of crop protection products in Austria, based in Vienna . With a turnover of 98 million euros, Kwizda Agro occupies a leading position in the marketing and sale of plant protection products , foliar fertilizers and biocides on the Austrian market . Kwizda Agro is an independent company and part of the Kwizda group of companies with the business fields of health (pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical distribution, pharmaceutical trade and pharmacy service), plant protection (agro) and sealing systems (roof and sealing systems from Büsscher & Hoffmann).

Ronald Hamedl is the managing director of Kwizda Agro. A total of around 275 employees work at the various Kwizda Agro locations, 130 of them in Austria.

The headquarters in Vienna is the seat of the administration of Kwizda Agro GmbH with the departments registration, marketing and controlling. Insecticides, fungicides, rodenticides and wood preservatives as well as herbicides are produced at the Leobendorf plant. In addition to Austria, Hungary and Romania, there are sales locations for crop protection, as well as for pesticides in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Leobendorf plant

In 1978 today's Kwizda Agro-Werk Leobendorf was built in the first stage as a central warehouse. In the course of the company's development, the location was expanded. Production started in 1982. Today the Leobendorf plant has production facilities and laboratory facilities for developing formulations. The plant focuses on the production of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and biocides. The plant was certified in May 2015 by the certification organization Bureau Veritas in accordance with the ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management) and OHSAS 18001 (occupational health and safety management) standards. The Leobendorf plant is also certified according to EMAS (Environmental Management & Audit Scheme - EU Regulation).

Incident at the Leobendorf plant

After an incident at the Leobendorf plant, groundwater contamination with the pesticide active ingredients thiamethoxam, clopyralid and florasulam was found in Korneuburg in 2010. On behalf of the Korneuburg district administration, a team of experts under the leadership of Werner Wruss and Kiril Atanasoff-Kardjalieff has developed a remediation concept for cleaning the groundwater. Since 2010, the company has assumed all costs for groundwater remediation with activated carbon filters. To date, twelve million euros have been spent on this. By July 2015, groundwater pollution had already been reduced by around 97 percent.

Investment program at the Leobendorf plant

Modernization measures are currently being implemented at the Leobendorf site and should be completed by 2018. The investment program with eight individual projects provides for an improvement in the infrastructure, environmental protection and modernization of the production plant. Among the eight individual projects of the modernization program is u. a. also the renewal of all sewage pipes and pits on the factory premises. In order to prevent a flow of groundwater below the factory premises, the factory premises were enclosed with a barrier wall, which was completed in 2014.

Val d'Izé plant

In 2004 Kwizda opened the factory in Val d'Ize. The site was built for the formulation and packaging of pesticides and products in the non-crop area.

Kwizda Agro Hungary

The Hungarian subsidiary of Kwizda Agro was founded in 1994 and currently employs 32 people. The Budapest-based company focuses on the marketing and sales of crop protection products, specialty fertilizers, pesticides and biocides.

Kwizda Agro Romania

In 2007 Agrovet Trade in Romania was taken over. The Bucharest subsidiary currently employs 57 people at 12 locations. The focus is on the wholesale and resale of pesticides, special fertilizers, pesticides, veterinary products and feed additives.
