Kyaxares I.
Cyaxares I. ( Medo Ḫavachštra , Elamite Šattarrida , Assyrian Kaštarita , Babylonian Hašatritti ) was the founder and first king of the Median tribal alliance.
He is also equated with the Mannai king Deiokes (Assyrian Daiukku ), who rose from judge to king. This allied in 716 BC. In the war against Sargon II. With the Kingdom of Urartu , was captured and 715 BC. Banished by Sargon II to Hama , Syria .
There is a reign of 768–715 BC. BC, because Herodotus Deiokes gives 53 years. Kyaxares is not a proper name, but describes the official title of autocracy . He moved the headquarters of his government to Ekbatana . In his 8th campaign, Sargon II reports on the Medes prince Kyaxares I, who paid tribute in Parsava ( Persian land ) southeast of Lake Urmi .
