Kyjovský hrádek

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kyjovský hrádek , also Horní Karlštejn , Pustý hrádek (German: Oberer Karlstein , Wüstes Schloss ) are the alleged remains of a rock castle near Kyjov ( Khaa ) in Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic . The area is located in the Kyjovské údolí ( Khaatal ) on a rock terrace above the Kirnitzsch ( Křinice ) and occupies an area of 150 × 150 meters. The remains of hewn rooms and beam supports can be seen there.

history

Nothing is known about the history of the castle site. Castle researchers have so far assumed that the castle was founded at the beginning of the 14th century.

However, more recent research has since doubted that the complex is actually a castle . Ceramic finds date the settlement of the area to the 14th century. Possibly the place served miners as a place to live and work, who mined and smelted iron ore here . Up to the present day old names like Zlatý potok (gold brook) or Železná jáma (iron mine) can be found in the vicinity, which point to medieval mining.
