The Löderburger See is a quarry pond near Löderburg in the Salzlandkreis in Saxony-Anhalt .

history

The Löderburger See emerged from a former opencast mine that was opened in 1918. In 1924 coal production was stopped, until 1930 only overburden was extracted. The spoil dump was then planted with trees in 1934. Two years later, the first considerations were made to set up a bathing area at the opencast mine. However, the Braunschweig coal mines refused. In 1937 the water level rose steadily. In 1959 a new attempt was made to exploit the open-cast mine and pumping started. The project was discontinued in 1962.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the approx. 36 ha large Restlochsee was expanded into a local recreation area and inaugurated in July 1977. In 1974 the production of today's beach began. Construction of the first farm buildings, the restaurant and the design of the site began in 1976. After 1990, the “Löderburger See” tourist center was privatized before it was transferred back to the community of Löderburg in 2001. In 2002, security measures were carried out on the cliffs, and one year later the restaurant and bath were renovated. A slide was inaugurated in 2004. In 2006 the Löderburger See GmbH was privatized. A new campsite was opened in 2008.
