L'Observateur paalga is a daily newspaper from the West African state of Burkina Faso . It was founded in 1973 under the name L'Observateur ( French for "the observer"), making it the country's oldest newspaper. After the revolution of Thomas Sankara , however, it had to cease its publication in 1984 and could only appear again under President Blaise Compaoré . The word paalga was added to the title , which means "new" in Mòoré - the Mossi language .

The newspaper has its own printing plant in the capital, Ouagadougou, and employs around 40 people. Around 6,000 copies are sold during the week, around 10,000 on Fridays; The editor is Édouard Ouédraogo. The price is 200 CFA francs .
