LAight therapy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Laight therapy is defined as a physical process for outpatient treatment of acne inversa (hidradenitis suppurativa), acute abscesses and acne , which was developed by the company LENICURA in Germany. In this combination therapy consisting of different light spectra and radio frequency, the affected areas are wetted with a contact gel and then irradiated with a special combination of different light waves and radio frequency. The emitted electromagnetic waves are absorbed at different depths of penetration in the epidermis and dermis- depending on the existing inflammatory structure and depth of the purulent inclusions - also in the subcutaneous tissue . This results in bactericidal, photodynamic effects directly on the skin surface, which among other things reduces the existing hyperkeratosis . The therapy develops an anti-inflammatory effect in the irradiated area, accelerates the abscess maturity and promotes its emptying. It often has an immediate pain-relieving effect and stimulates new tissue formation. In addition, the renewed formation of sebum inclusions is counteracted.

The medical product required for the treatment process has a medical CE approval that is valid throughout Europe, but is only available in Germany and Austria.

application areas

The LAight therapy is an externally applied therapy for the treatment of inflammatory lesions (abscesses, fistulas , nodules, pimples, pustules) and is used in particular for acne inversa / hidradenitis suppurativa (L73.2). For this indication, it is the only therapy option approved for all degrees of severity, but has not yet been assessed by the G-BA and is therefore not yet a health insurance benefit in Germany.

In addition, the treatment device is approved for the treatment of non-chronic skin abscesses (L02) and for the treatment of all forms of acne (L70), including acne conglobata and acne vulgaris .

Research and funding projects with LAight

  • NICE study by the Dermatology Clinic of the Mainz University Medical Center: From 2014 to 2016, a single-center study on the effectiveness of the combination therapy of light and radio frequency was carried out at the Mainz Dermatology Clinic.
  • RELIEVE study: Multicenter study to compare the effectiveness of the treatment of acne inversa with the combination of LAight® therapy with guideline-based drug therapy in relation to guideline-based drug therapy alone. Participating centers: Dermatology Clinic of the University Medical Center Mainz, University Medical Center Wrocław (Breslau, Poland), Dermatological Practice Dr. Kirschner (Mainz)
  • EsmAiL - Evaluation of a structured and guideline-based multimodal care concept for people with acne inversa under the consortium lead of the Dermatology Clinic Mainz with the consortium partners Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wundheilung und Wundheilung e. V., Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Techniker Krankenkasse, BARMER
