The LIWEST cable Medien GmbH ( LI nz WE ls ST EYR) is a telecommunications company based in Linz-Urfahr ( Upper Austria ). It is the largest cable network operator in Upper Austria with currently over 125,000 households served.

LIWEST ​​offers internet, television & radio and landline telephone as well as a range of services via its cable network. All services are also available in areas away from the metropolitan areas. The supply area extends over 60 cities and communities in the Upper Austrian central area, parts of the Salzkammergut and parts of western Lower Austria . Since 2016, mobile tariffs have also been offered throughout Austria under the LIWEST ​​Mobil brand, for which the TMobile Austria network is used.

The LIWEST ​​owners include the following companies: Linz AG for energy, telecommunications, transport and municipal services (44% company shares), Managementservice Linz GmbH (43% company shares), eww ag - E-Werk Wels AG (13% company shares). Linz AG has been the majority owner since April 1, 2014. Liwest was retained in its current form as an independent company.

The company was founded in 1978 by the municipalities of Linz, Wels and Steyr in cooperation with Siemens. From 1985 the first satellite TV programs (3SAT and SAT1) were included in the program. In 1996 the first regional program, Upper Austria Vision (today LT1 ) was included in the offer. Internet access at broadband speed has also been offered via TV cable since 1997.

In 1998 LIWEST ​​was merged with Kabel-TV-Urfahr . The Internet offer was advertised with its own brand, 24Speed , from 1999 . A milestone occurred in 2000; With the product 24Phone , LIWEST ​​customers also had access to a telephony service via (television) cable.

In the following years were next 24Phone also 24Vision and 24Eco introduced. In 2007 the subsidiary Multimedia ONE was founded, which meant that additional areas in Upper Austria could be supplied. In 2010 the combination product KATi! (Cable TV, telephone and internet) introduced. A year later, the service of the all-round satisfaction package supplemented the LIWEST ​​offer.

Since 2012 it has been possible to get an internet connection through LIWEST ​​even without a television contract. Via HbbTV , LIWEST ​​customers have been able to use the ORF TVthek on their television with the right device since 2013. In 2014 KATi! - KATi! + . In addition to a new look, the combination product is now available with various speed upgrades. Since 2016, LIWEST ​​has also been offering mobile tariffs together with ventocom.

Made possible by the fiber optic infrastructure, which has been steadily expanding since 1997, private customers have been able to receive internet tariffs with speeds of up to 400 Mbit / s since October 2017.
