LT defense formation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The LT defense formation is a form of cover in handball . The LT cover was invented and used for the first time by Zoltan Cordas . He developed the defense formation in the course of his training to become an EHF Master Coach. The coverage is similar to the 5: 1 coverage variant in handball, as a player also works preferred to 9 meters. The name is derived from the bird's eye view of the players. It either acts in a T-formation against the attack or forms an L-formation.

The principle

The aim of the cover is to make the space against the attacker as compact as possible. If the ball is in backcourt middle, the full-backs move up to the half positions. Moving in creates an outnumbered situation for cover in the middle and, viewed from above, the formation resembles a T. If the ball continues to be played in a half position, the formation moves after the ball. The half-defender close to the ball goes offensively against the attacker and the outside player in cover orients himself back to his original position. On the side away from the ball, the winger remains oriented inwards and defends against the half position. Viewed from above, the line-up looks like an L.

Position functions

  • Outside player
    • Move defense to the ball side
    • Cover the back of the half-back
    • Prevent diagonal passes

A clear advantage is that by moving in, a backcourt player can cover in the RA position without any problems. Due to the reduced number of duels, the strength gained can be used in the attack.

  • Half-defender
    • Accept tackles
    • Fights to the middle have to be won, the outside player helps out
    • Pushing cover on the ball side, the most important task of the half-back.
  • Back center or central defender
    • Always between the ball and the circle when it is in the middle
    • Circle is always overtaken and not man-covered
    • Block against throws across the middle
