The LTS-55 ( Russian ЛТЗ-55 ) is a Russian tractor that was produced from 1991 in the Lipetski Traktorny Zavod (German Lipetsk Tractor Plant , short ЛТЗ or LTS). It is the successor to the T-40 , which was built in large numbers, and was later replaced by the more powerful LTS-60, which is still being built today.

Vehicle history

Production of the LTS-55 began in 1991, with the basic model initially being built without all-wheel drive . From 1993 there was also the LTS-55A with all-wheel drive. Both tractors replaced the T-40, which had been mass-produced for almost 35 years and of which there were similar model versions.

A total of five different models were built. These also include the LTS-55N and LTS-55AN variants, which were specially designed with a lower ground clearance. This means that the vehicles can also drive on steep slopes without tipping over.

The technology changed only slightly compared to the T-40. The same diesel engine of the type D-144 with 50 HP (37 kW) and a little over four liters displacement was installed, and the same manual transmission was used. A torque converter could optionally be ordered, which increased the available number of gear stages to a total of 42. However, the appearance of the vehicle changed from the T-40, which received a new cabin and a different hood.

As early as 1994, with the LTS-60, a somewhat stronger successor was built, which the Lipetski Traktorny Sawod still produces today. When exactly the production of the LTS-55 was stopped is unknown. However, it is likely that this happened with the manufacturer's insolvency in 2004.
