Lais
Lais ( ancient Greek Λαίς “the well-known” or Semitic “lioness”) was a popular name for hetaerae in ancient Greece . The frequent occurrence of the name in connection with hetaires makes it difficult to assign sources to specific persons. The two most famous hetaera named Lais were:
- Lais of Corinth , worked in Corinth ;
- Lais von Hykkara , was born in Hykkara , then also worked in Corinth.
