La Concordia (Friborg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

La Concordia is the name of the official wind orchestra of the city of Friborg in Switzerland . It was founded in 1882 in the Au-Quartier of the city of Friborg as Le cercle de la Concorde and is Vice-Swiss Master of the Harmony Orchestra . The orchestra has been under the direction of Jean-Claude Kolly since 1994 and also performs abroad.

history

In 1883 Abbot Kleiser founded the Cercle de la Concorde in Freiburg. A year later the brass band du Cercle came into being . From 1905 the brass band called itself Concordia and was a member of the federal, from 1921 also of the cantonal music association. In 1923 the Concordia reached first place at the Swiss Federal Music Festival in Zug. In 1938, the Freiburg city council awarded the Concordia the title of "Official Town Music of Freiburg".

The Kadettenmusik was founded in 1969 to promote the next generation. Women have also played in the Concordia since 1972. In 1977 and 1987 Concordia visited the twin town of Nova Friburgo in Brazil, and in 1996 she traveled to Mexico. She reached third place at the Federal Music Festival in Interlaken, first at the 2005 cantonal music festival and third at the 2006 Swiss music festival in Lucerne. At the Swiss Federal Music Festival in Montreux, Concordia 2016 won the silver medal in the top class harmony category. At the World Music Contest 2017 in Kerkrade (NL) it was enough with 91.70 points for fifth place and at the Musikfest 2018 in Grenchen for first place. In 2019 the Concordia traveled to Russia for a return visit by the Suvorov cadets, where it sparked enthusiasm in Moscow and St. Peterburg.

occupation

Under the direction of Jean-Claude Kolly, the line-up changed: the brass band became a harmony orchestra. The brass instruments bow horn and cornet have disappeared. The euphonium and bass were reduced from around five each to three. The drum group, which was previously necessary for marching music, was reduced from five to seven to one or two people, which is sufficient for defiling. In 1992 the Concordia had a total of 110 musicians who played 55 brass and 55 woodwind instruments, today's Concordia orchestra has between 70 and 80 musicians who play 43 flutes and woodwind instruments and 30 brass instruments. The brass instruments are clearly in the minority, which is typical for a harmony orchestra.
