The museum is located at 27 Rue Ransfort in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean on a canal on the site of the former foundry 'La Compagnie des Bronzes' (1854–1979). It is managed as a non-profit association and focuses on the analysis and exhibition of social history and economy in and around Brussels. It publishes a magazine, organizes guided tours and offers lessons. There is also a documentation center there that is available to the public.

So far, the museum has mainly dealt with four industrial sectors: metal processing, wood processing, textile production and food production. Each module exhibits two machines and describes the companies that manufactured and used them. The exhibits are mainly from our own collection as well as from collections of friendly organizations and private individuals. The permanent exhibition has been located in the 300 m² machine room of the former foundry since 2001. Temporary exhibitions take place on the upper floor. Further exhibits from other industrial sectors will complete the exhibition in the future.

La Fonderie complements the exhibitions of the leading museums in Brussels. The exhibition, labeled in both French and Flemish, appeals to those interested in technology and sociology. An English-language manual describes the most important exhibits.
