history

Up until the beginning of the 20th century there was a brewery on the site in the southern station district. In 1915 the central dairy of Strasbourg was founded here. Operations ceased in 1979 when they merged with four regional cooperative dairies and moved to more suitable buildings in Hœrdt . From 1989, after the election of Catherine Trautmann as mayor of Strasbourg, planning began for the conversion of the site into a cultural center. In 1994 the city of Strasbourg's two concert halls for contemporary music opened.
