La Poza

The medieval village of La Poza in Baltanás in the province of Palencia in Spain, excavated since 2010, with the church as its central core, has a history of at least five centuries.

The site is formed by a large necropolis with more than 700 corpses. Some have been examined in detail and the rest buried in the city cemetery and cataloged in case the investigation is resumed in the future. The remains were brought to the Archaeological Museum of Palencia, some sarcophagi were transferred to the Museo del Cerrato. Fragments of two Visigothic windows and the furnace in which the bell was melted have been recovered. During the excavations, several bronze figures, a chalice, ceramics, sarcophagi, numerous silos and tools have emerged.
