La Rue Kétanou is a French music group that combines elements of folk , reggae , pop and street music . Her name is a corruption of the French phrase “La rue qui est à nous” , which means “The street that belongs to us”.

History of the band

La Rue Kétanou consists of the three musicians Florent Vintrigner, Olivier Leite and Mourad Musset, who met at the Théâtre du fil in Paris . The group began their career as a street musician, mainly in La Rochelle and on the île de Ré , where they designed their performances as a mixture of musical performance and street theater. The motto of these first appearances was “C'est pas nous qui sommes à la rue, c'est la Rue Kétanou!” (A play on words with several meanings, for example: “We don't belong to the street / sit on the street (in the sense of homeless, unemployed) / are blown by the wind, but the street is ours! ").

After a while, during which the group had mainly performed on the street and in smaller clubs and bars, they met Bibou, a member of the Tryo group, who offered them to appear in the support act of his group and also got them their first record deal.

Their first album, En attendant les caravanes , was released in January 2001. This was followed by various concerts and performances at festivals until they finally released their next album, Y'a des cigales dans la fourmilière (“There are cicadas in the anthill”) in 2002 . In 2004 the live album Ouvert à double tour was released , after which rumors about a breakup of the group became loud. Officially, however, the group was only on a creative break, which the individual members used to work on their own projects.

After a break of two years, they returned to a dozen concerts in the summer of 2007. They also performed some new songs and announced several times that they were busy with the production of a new album. It was published in 2009 under the title "A contresens".
