Label Edge Router

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A label edge router (LER) is a router on the edge of an MPLS network.

When an IP packet enters an MPLS domain, the routing information is used to select a suitable MPLS label for the packet, to provide the packet with this label and to forward it within the MPLS domain.

When an IP packet leaves the MPLS domain, the LER removes the MPLS label and forwards the IP packet according to the underlying IP routing mechanism.
