Labello is a lip balm from Beiersdorf AG . The name Labello originated from the Latin words “labium” (= lip ) and “bellus” (= beautiful) and therefore means “beautiful lips”. Labello has been sold under this trademark by Beiersdorf AG since 1909, making it the oldest product of the Beiersdorf brands that are still known today. The developer of the lip balm was the then Beiersdorf owner Oscar Troplowitz . The innovative rotating sleeve housing from which the Labello is unscrewed for use, which is still used in many lipsticks and other cosmetic products, was new . Labello is the market leader in this field in many European countries. The classic blue Labello came on the market in 1973.

In other European countries, in the USA and Japan, the care pens are offered under the brand name Nivea . In Greece and Spain the products are sold under the name Liposan .

criticism

When using Labello, there is a certain habituation effect: some users notice increasingly dry lips, which leads to increasing use of the product. However, this also applies to most lip balm sticks from other manufacturers. Critics such as the magazine Öko-Test referred to the drying and possibly harmful effects of the mineral oil products previously contained, which could occur with frequent use.

Labello changed the recipe in 2018. The new recipe no longer contains any mineral oils.

Variety of varieties

Labello is available in over 20 variants worldwide. You can also get the Labello with sun protection factor, which not only cares for the lips, but also protects them from excessive sun exposure. The product is also available with various fruit flavors ("taste"). The sleeve (or cap) of the pen then has the color of the respective fruit.
