Emergence

Labrystheia was founded in 1989 during the Protestant Church Congress in Berlin on the initiative of lesbian theology students.

Goal setting and activities

Labrystheia is a network for all lesbians who are or were in church or theological education or who are interested in lesbian- feminist theology . It offers regular annual meetings and group meetings. The content is about specifically lesbian, theological and socio-political topics such as one's own coming-out experiences, spirituality , a lesbian existence in everyday life, racism , lesbians in the church and wedding and blessing services for lesbian and gay couples. Labrystheia has repeatedly sent letters to the respective Evangelical Upper Church Council on this subject, with the request that wedding and blessing services also be made possible for homosexual couples. Personal experiences of oppression and the feeling of not being visible in training content and in the church context are also discussed in all of these topics. Labrystheia published a reader in 1993 on the subject of "Racism in the FRG". In 1999 followed a reader on the employment of lesbians in and at the church "Labrystheia - of course lesbian theological". For the 10th anniversary the publication "My God - she loves me." Lesbian Feminist Contributions to Biblical Theology ”. At the Labrystheia conferences and in the regional groups, contacts are established that shape the network. Labrystheia is also represented at both the Catholic and Protestant church conventions with a stand in the Rainbow Center to provide information about its own networking work and to recruit new women. Labrystheia is also a founding member of the “Regenbogenforum e. V. - Christian LGBTTIQ in Germany ", which was founded in October 2016 in Bielefeld.
