Laughter left. The republican Witzblatt was a satirical magazine that the SPD published through its party publisher, Dietz-Verlag , from 1924 to 1927 during the Weimar Republic . From January 11, 1924, it replaced the satirical magazine Der Wahre Jacob, which went into inflation in 1923 .

It is believed that the name of the paper was inspired by parliamentary minutes. There the laughter in the different political camps was documented with the notes “Laugh left” or “Laugh right”.

The newspaper was run by editor-in-chief Erich Kuttner and editor Friedrich Wendel . Well-known co-designers of the paper were among others the satirist Karl Schnog and the draftsman Hans Baluschek .

Lachen links was replaced by the True Jacob in 1927. The last issue said:

“Nothing is interrupted, nothing is canceled. [...] It goes without saying that the fight that 'Laughing Left' waged against social and cultural backwardness and hostility to development with the weapon of satire will not be broken off. It is carried on under the old flag of the 'True Jacob', which has been well-known to the German workers and the general public for decades. "
