Painting wheel

As Lackierrad special are wheels for motor vehicles designated to serve as an aid in repair coatings. Conventional tires are not designed for higher temperatures, sometimes over 60 degrees Celsius, which are reached when the drying process is forced after the paint has been applied.

description

When repairing motor vehicles after accidents, painting work with final drying of the paint (forced drying) is one of the final work steps. For technical and economic reasons, it is desirable to accelerate the drying process, which is done in paint shops by increasing the temperature in the paint booths. Drying the paint at 55 to 60 degrees Celsius is too stressful for conventional vehicle tires. Regardless of the rubber compound, the risk increases that the tire material will become brittle and damage the vehicle tires.

In earlier decades car tires were inflated to up to 4.0 bar during the painting and drying process to prevent the risk of damage to the material. This procedure is considered out of date and is no longer accepted by vehicle and tire manufacturers when repairing accidents. Branded auto repair shops therefore often have several sets of painting wheels that are specially fitted to their customers' vehicles for the painting and drying phase before they are taken to the paint shop.

Function and areas of application

The painting wheel is used for professional accident repairs in accordance with the regulations of the vehicle manufacturer. If the use of special paint wheels instead of the usual tires is prescribed, the car workshop or paint shop must dismantle and later reassemble the vehicle tires. Attaching the universal painting wheel promotes the workflow through its universal use, and specialist companies only have to keep a fraction of the previous painting wheels in stock.

The universal painting wheel was specifically designed for the painting and drying process when repairing accidents in the vehicle area. Small stretches within the paint shop can be driven with the special tire, the temporary universal paint wheel is not designed for regular use in road traffic. Due to the small width of the tires, the vehicle can be moved more easily and the universal painting wheels require little storage space.

Various vehicle manufacturers explicitly stipulate that a separate set of paint wheels must be fitted when repairing paint damage. At the request of the Association of Independent Motor Vehicle Experts, all major tire manufacturers also speak out in favor of such recommendations. This warns of potential tire damage if the tires are not replaced with special paint wheels during the forced drying process.
