A painting line is a production step in the industrial production of goods of various types, for example household appliances or automobiles . It is used to apply paint to the surface of a workpiece .

Today, painting lines are controlled fully automatically and usually consist of various stations, such as cleaning, painting and drying. The workpiece passes through the successive stations on a conveyor belt. The run can either take place in intermittent operation or in continuous conveying operation. In general, a painting line comprises the area of ​​the actual paint application (one or more layers with one or more application processes such as dip painting or powder coating ), with liquid paints the evaporation of the solvents , the paint drying and, if necessary, the cooling . Painting lines can be a few meters long, for example when painting small parts, or up to 100 or more meters, for example when painting automobiles in series.
