Leac na Cumha

Lacknacoo ( Irish Leac na Cumha , German  "stone slab of loneliness" ) in the townland of the same name in County Donegal in Ireland is a flat stone discolored rusty red by coins.

According to legend, it is considered the birthplace of St. Columban of Iona . His actual place of birth is probably the monastery complex in Gartan. Columban is also said to have slept on the stone before his trip to Iona .

In Irish folklore, the stone is said to have powers that help overcome pain, sadness and loneliness, which is reflected in the name. It is full of coins from pilgrims who have made a wish.

The small hill is the remainder of a megalithic complex that can no longer be determined . The Stone of loneliness is with many small Neolithic or Bronze Age bowls ( English cups decorated) and was perhaps capstone of a Megalithmonuments. The square has the characteristics of an old, later Christianized cult square.
