The Lago di Monte Cotugno is a reservoir created between 1970 and 1982 and inaugurated in 1983 in the province of Potenza , Basilicata region in southern Italy . Its area is 18.5 km².
The lake dams the Sinni River , which flows into the Ionian Sea south of Policoro . Its storage volume is 530 million m³; this makes the reservoir the largest in Italy. It has an earth embankment dam around 1850 m in length with a height of 60 m and a base width of 260 m.
