Lagoa da Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo ( Portuguese "Lake in the Plain of the Christ Crater") is a beach lake on the Portuguese Azores island of São Jorge . It is located in the Calheta district on a remote, small coastal plain in the Natura 2000 area PTJOR0014 ("Costa NE e Ponta do Topo - Ilha de S. Jorge") and in the Ramsar area 1615 ("'Fajãs' of Caldeira and Cubres Lagoons "). The lake was naturally separated from the sea by a stone wall and consists of salt water, as it has an opening that ensures water exchange with the open sea at high tide . Studies have concluded that this barrier tends to move west and could one day close the opening. In order to prevent the latter and to preserve the current state, the dam around the opening has been artificially reinforced.

The lake is of ecological importance as the nursery for several fish species. These include the brown grouper ( Epinephelus marginatus ), the macronese grouper ( Mycteroperca fusca ) and the thick-lipped mullet ( Chelon labrosus ). Only in this lake in the Azores do latticed clams ( (rudi) tapes decussatus , a subspecies of the clam ) grow . They are considered a great delicacy of the island, but are only harvested in small quantities in good years because they are under protection.

The lake is also popular for bathing and swimming because of its protected location.
