The Laguna La Picasa is a wetland in Argentina . It lies in the border area of ​​the provinces of Buenos Aires and Santa Fe .

Hydrology

During periods of extreme drought, the area of ​​Laguna La Picasa decreases to around 300 km², while the maximum extent is 5500 km², with the marshland, which is then traversed by numerous ponds and lakes, extends far into the province of Cordoba . The following areas are affected in the individual provinces:

  • 2500 km² province of Cordoba
  • 2100 km² Santa Fe province
  • 900 km² Province of Buenos Aires

At the end of 2007 the open water surface, the water level of which is currently around 106 meters above sea level. d. M. , decreased to 160 km², which is partly due to efforts to control the water level by a pumping station near Rufino . The average depth of the lake is about 3 meters.

During a dry season that lasted from around 1920 to 1973, the lake level fell to 104.5 meters above sea level. d.
