Laconikos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lakonikos ( Greek  Λακωνικός ) was the last king of Sparta in 192 BC. Chr.

Lakonikos was of royal descent. Which royal family ( Agiads or Eurypontids ) he belonged to is unknown. Since, according to Livy , he was raised by Nabis , he could have been a grandson of his.

Lakonikos was still a child when he was born after the murder of Nabis and the conquest of Sparta by the Aetolians in 192 BC. Was proclaimed king by the people. They put Lakonikos on a horse and killed many Aetolians. Philopoimen , strategist of the Achaean League , intervened immediately, even without the support of the Romans, conquered and plundered Sparta. The further fate of Laconikos is unknown.
