Lambda (rocket)
Lambda or L (after the respective transcription of the 11th Greek letter λ ) is the name of a series of Japanese rockets . The sounding rockets Lambda 2 , LS-A , LSC-3 , Lambda 3 , LS-C and the satellite carrier rocket Lambda 4 were realized. The University of Tokyo, Institute of Space and Aeronautical Sciences ( ISAS ), to which the non-commercial space program of Japan was assigned, acted as the client .
The Lambda only used solid rocket stages that were built by Nissan Motor Co. The series was preceded by tests with the K series (like Kappa ). The development was continued in the program Mu (like My or M).
The first Japanese satellite, the Osumi , was launched with a Lambda 4 on February 11, 1970 at the Uchinoura Space Center launch site .
