Lancaster Gate is an underground London Underground station in the City of Westminster . It lies on the northern edge of Hyde Park on Bayswater Road in the district of Bayswater . The station served by the Central Line and located in the Travelcard tariff zone 1 was used by 6.79 million passengers in 2013.

The opening took place on July 30, 1900 by the Central London Railway , the predecessor company of the Central Line. The original station building was from Harry Bell Measures . It was demolished in 1968 and replaced by a modern new building designed by the architecture firm TP Bennett & Son , which originally housed offices but is now used by a hotel.

From July 3 to November 13, 2006, the station was closed to allow the old elevators to be modernized. In the course of the work, the rest of the station was also renovated and equipped with improved video surveillance . The Paddington station is located about five minutes walk away.
