State Office for Geology and Mining

The State Office for Geology and Mining has been the executive authority for mining law in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 2008 .

The office is subordinate to the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Economics, Climate Protection, Energy and State Planning . It is based in Mainz-Hechtsheim and was created in 2002 by merging the Rhineland-Palatinate Geological Office with the Rhineland-Palatinate Mining Office . Head of office is Georg Wieber.

The office is divided into three departments:

- Department 1 comprises central services such as "Administration", "Laboratory" and "EDP, Cartography and Library".

- In Department 2, the topics "Geology and Raw Materials", "Hydrogeology", "Soil" and "Engineering Geology and Seismic Service" are dealt with.

- Department 3 comprises "Mining Supervision", "Planning Approval and Mining Law" and "Borehole Mining and Mine Surveys".

Among other things, the office is responsible for measuring earthquakes in Rhineland-Palatinate.
