The Berlin Senate Advisory Council was given a legal basis by the Senate of Berlin's 2006 Senate Participation Act to strengthen the rights of senior citizens to participate in social life in the state of Berlin (Berlin Senate Participation Act - BerlSenG) of May 25, 2006.

The Berlin Seniors 'Participation Act stipulates the goals of the Berlin Seniors' Advisory Council. Accordingly, the active participation of Berlin senior citizens in social, cultural, societal and political life is to be promoted, their experiences and skills are to be used, relations between the generations to be improved, the community of solidarity to be further developed and the process of growing older in dignity and without discrimination with active personal participation of senior citizens in Berlin are guaranteed.

The Berlin State Seniors' Advisory Council consists of 25 members and is composed of:

  • from the twelve chairmen of the district senior representatives,
  • from twelve other representatives of senior citizens' organizations, who are appointed by the senate member of the Berlin Senate for the duration of the electoral term of the Berlin House of Representatives.
  • a representative of a senior citizens' organization or competence center who is to be appointed by the senate member responsible for senior citizens and who is in Berlin for the interests of senior citizens with a migration background within the meaning of Section 2 of the Participation and Integration Act (= External link) uses:

The State Seniors' Advisory Board advises the Berlin House of Representatives and the Berlin Senate on issues of importance to senior citizens. The senate administration responsible for senior citizens provides the regional seniors' advisory board with the necessary information. The regional seniors' advisory board meets regularly and carries out public relations work. It informs the interested public, especially the senior citizens' organizations, about the topics dealt with and supports the dissemination of knowledge about legal provisions that affect senior citizens. He informs himself about the implementation of the legal provisions on site. The regional seniors' advisory board works in the pre-parliamentary area to represent the interests of older citizens from the age of 60.
