Saxony State Association of Jewish Communities

The State Association of Saxony of the Jewish Communities Kdö.R. is an association of Jewish communities in the Free State of Saxony . He is a member of the Central Council of Jews in Germany and includes the Jewish community in Chemnitz, the Jewish community in Dresden and the Israelite religious community in Leipzig . With 2524 community members (as of 2017, ZWST) it is one of the smaller regional associations within the Central Council.

The relationship between Saxony and the Jewish communities there was regulated in a State Church Treaty , which was signed on June 7, 1994 by the Free State of Saxony and the Saxony State Association of Jewish Communities. On June 23, 1994, the state treaty was approved by a law of the state parliament. The contract was changed on December 4, 2015. From 1998 to 2012, Dr. Salomon Almekias-Siegl took over the office of the regional rabbi of Saxony. Zsolt Balla, the long-standing municipal rabbi of Leipzig (since 2009), has been appointed as his successor since January 28, 2019. While Dr. Almekias-Siegl was organized in the General Rabbinical Conference, Rabbi Balla is a member of the board of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference in Germany .
