Glyn Paque

Glyn Eric Paque (* 29. August 1906 in Poplar Bluff , Missouri ; † 29. August 1953 in Basel ) was an American jazz - saxophonist and clarinetist .

Glyn Paque came to New York City in 1926 and played as a professional musician in orchestras and dance bands; later he worked with Jelly Roll Morton , King Oliver 1930, Luis Russell 1931, Benny Carter 1933/34 and Willie Bryant 1935. Due to a depressive illness he was not active as a musician for a while, but went to Europe in 1937 with Bobby Martin's orchestra, in which Ram Ramirez and Kaiser Marshall also played. After Martin himself returned to the USA, Paque stayed with musicians from the Bobby Martin Orchestra in Europe and settled in Switzerland after the outbreak of war in 1939, where he a. a. played with The Lanigiros . His daughter Florence was born on November 29, 1940 in Basel.

Paque founded a formation here called The Cotton Club Serenaders , worked with Eddie Brunner and Fred Böhler in 1944 and French bandleaders such as Philippe Brun and Jerry Thomas . Finally, in the 1940s, Paque reduced his band to a sextet and played regularly in all major Swiss cities. He also appeared as a guest soloist with Rio de Gregori . He was also fascinating because he had already developed circular breathing techniques and used them during his solos.

Glyn Paque died of a heart attack on his 47th birthday .
