Fred Boehler

Fred Böhler (born July 26, 1912 in Zurich as Fritz Walter Böhler ; † January 10, 1995 in Zumikon ) was a Swiss pianist and band leader in the field of swing and popular music .

Live and act

Böhler, who learned the violin as a child, completed an apprenticeship as a textile draftsman in Zurich from 1927 to 1931, while at the same time taking private piano lessons. In 1929 he appeared for the first time in amateur bands and made his first recordings. From 1931 to 1936 he studied at the Zurich Conservatory and then worked as a professional musician. With his quintet, which also included Eddie Brunner , he had great successes at the Swiss National Exhibition in Zurich in 1939. In the next few years he recorded numerous piano duets, among others with Werner Kruse . In 1943 he formed a big band that lasted until 1948 and included musicians like Gugu Dupuis , Hazy Osterwald , Glyn Paque , Rio de Gregori , Kitty Ramon and Marcel Bianchi . In 1948 he worked with a sextet, in which Pierre Cavalli and as accordionist, vibraphonist and arranger Curt Prina participated and that until 1951 a. a. toured Germany, Holland and Denmark; He then appeared in a trio or in other combos and played with Eddie Brunner. From 1954 he worked as a solo organist and brought out some records in the field of light music such as Hammond Special (Amadeo); as a guest soloist of the Interlaken Kurorchester, he accompanied Zarah Leander , Edith Piaf and Josephine Baker . At the Expo64 in Lausanne he appeared again with his own combo. From 1965 he ran his own electro-acoustic business and occasionally made recordings of light music. In 1992 he turned back to jazz and gave concerts, for example with the Berner Hot Strings and the Metronome Quintet .
