Werner Kruse (composer)
Werner Kruse (born January 5, 1910 in Zurich ; † January 18, 2005 in Stuls ) was a Swiss composer and jazz-influenced pianist.
Live and act
Kruse studied at the Zurich Music Academy, from which he graduated with a piano diploma. Even during his studies he distinguished himself as an improvising musician. He then learned conducting with Felix Weingartner and studied instrumentation with Michael Krausz in Vienna. He worked as Kapellmeister at the theaters of Schaffhausen and Lucerne, but also composed the music for Labiche's “The Florentiner Hat” in the Vienna Theater in Josefstadt and directed the performance there. As the musical director of the Comedy Basel , he created many stage music. He also worked on radio recordings as a swing-oriented pianist. Together with Fred Böhler , he played a duo for Columbia Records in 1940 . In 1955 his piano concerto, interspersed with jazz elements, was performed in As in Basel. For Expo64 he composed electronic music for the fashion pavilion. Since the 1940s he has written film scores for numerous feature, documentary, industrial and advertising films , around 1962 Der 42. Himmel (together with Hans Moeckel ); he also recorded film scores as a conductor and musical director. He also composed and played music for many cabarets, such as Cabaret Cornichon , Die Pfeffermühle around Erika Mann , Cabaret Fédéral , Düsseldorfer Kom (m) ödchen and, in the 1960s, for cabaret programs by César Keizer and Margrit Läubli .
In 1977 he retired to Stuls due to a chronic illness; there he composed a string quartet and other chamber music works.
