The Cabaret Fédéral was founded in 1949 in Zurich by members of the Cabaret Cornichon Otto Weissert (management), Max Werner Lenz and Zarli Carigiet .

The first program "Hinder em Mond" premiered on September 16, 1949 with Lukas Ammann , Carigiet, Max Haufler , Blanche Aubry and Helen Vita in the Kursaal in Bad Ragaz . A week later, with the same program, the cabaret moved to its future local, the hall of the “Hirschen” restaurant in Zurich's Niederdorf district . After ten years in the «Hirschen», the company moved to the Zurich Theater am Hechtplatz , which was built as a new cabaret venue at the suggestion of Cabaret Fédéral and leased to Weissert by the City of Zurich. For the inauguration on April 25, 1959, the piece "Eusi chliini Stadt" was given as guests with Fédéral members Glaser, Carigiet and Staub as well as Margrit Rainer , Ruedi Walter , Irène Camarius and Inigo Gallo .
