Eugène Marin Labiche (born May 6, 1815 near Paris , † January 22, 1888 in Paris) was an important French comedy poet .

Life

Labiche was the son of a wealthy industrialist and attended the Collège royal de Bourbon . He then traveled to Italy , from where he wrote chats in a few Parisian papers, which he later published under the title: La clef des champs , and produced his first piece La cuvette d'eau in 1837 and the Posse Monsieur de Coislin with a large amount in 1838 Success to performance.

With effect from November 1880 Labiche was accepted as the successor to Ustazade Silvestre de Sacy in the Académie française ( Fauteuil 15 ).

For four decades he wrote for the Parisian theaters, mainly the genre theaters, a rich treasure trove of comedies , antics , vaudevilles and more, some of which have remained exemplary for the genre. In them, a humanistic , humane and yet never hurtful sense of humor, rare quick-wittedness of dialogue and safe stage technology almost always go hand in hand.
