criticism

"Clair's film lives from the character drawing of its protagonists and from the possibilities of the moving image [...], so that the pun of the original is transferred directly to 'Bildwitz'", stated Reclam's film guide . For Cinema , the film was a "[with] ease staged, technically mature silent film classic". What can be seen is "[t] tricky and easy cinema without words".
