Bobby Martin

Bobby Martin (* 15. May 1903 , † 28. August 2001 ) was an American jazz - trumpet player and bandleader.

Bobby Martin grew up in Long Branch , New Jersey , where he played the trumpet with June Clark and Sonny Greer as a child . He began his career as a professional musician in 1925 with Sam Wooding ; he played in his orchestra in New York City until 1931 and participated in his tours in Europe. From 1932 to 1936 he played with Willie Lewis and his entertainers in France; after his return to the United States he formed his own quartet in 1937, with whom he had a long engagement at the Palace , which was located in the New York borough of Greenwich Village . His musicians included the pianist Richard Edwards , the drummer Ural Dean and the guitarist Samuel Steede . He also went on a European tour with his group; in a fire in the Rotterdam Mephisto Club , his arrangements were destroyed in the fire. At that time his band included u. a. the Joseph "Emperor" Marshall , Glyn Paque and Ram Ramirez . For the feature film "L'Alibi" (1936) he accompanied Valaida Snow with his orchestra .

Martin continued touring Europe into the 1940s; with the beginning of the Second World War he worked in New York City and New Jersey . In the 1940s he also briefly ran his own club; In 1944, however, he left the music business. He was married to the singer Thelma Minor.
