Bobbi Martin
Bobbi Martin (born November 29, 1943 as Barbara Anne Martin in Brooklyn , New York City , † May 2, 2000 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American country and pop singer and songwriter . She had several record hits in the 1960s and 1970s.
career
Martin grew up as the illegitimate child of an Army member with her grandmother in Baltimore. There she performed as a singer in a small club at the age of 15. At 17, she moved to New York and started working for a union. In 1960 she recorded her first single record as "Bobbi Martin" with the small New York record company Maypole. A year later she got a recording contract with Coral Records , where 18 singles and two long-playing records were released by 1967. Among them were three titles that could place in the Hot 100 of the US music magazine Billboard . Best of all was the song Don't Forget I Still Love You , which reached 19th place in 1964. The success was even greater with the title For the Love of Him , which was published by United Artists in 1969 and reached 13th place in the Hot 100. He also appeared in numerous other countries and was designed by Shirley Bassey gecovert . By 1973 Martin published a total of over 30 singles and eight long-playing records. She made several appearances on the American Bandstand television show and sang in Las Vegas nightclubs . She toured with Bob Hope and toured abroad. In addition to her singing career, Martin also worked as a songwriter. She wrote most of the tracks for herself, including her hits For The Love Of Him and I Can't Stop Thinking of You . From 1971 onwards she got problems with her vocal cords, which eventually forced her to retire from the music business for years. A comeback attempt with the disco single Man Was Made to Love Woman for Green Menu Records was barely noticed in 1975.
Martin died of lung cancer in her hometown of Baltimore in 2000.
